In 2021, the Corporate Transparency Act was enacted by Congress. This law aims to make it more difficult for bad actors to hide or benefit from their illegal gains through shell companies or other opaque ownership structures. As part of this effort, many companies in the United States will be required to report information about their beneficial owners, i.e., the individuals who ultimately own or control the company by Congress. This reporting requirement came into effect on January 1, 2024, and the information will have to be reported to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), which is a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
FAQ
Who has to report?
Companies required to report are called reporting companies. Reporting companies may have to obtain information from their beneficial owners and report that information to FinCEN.
Who Does Not Have to Report?
Twenty-three types of entities are exempt from the beneficial ownership information reporting requirements. These entities include publicly traded companies, nonprofits, and certain large operating companies.
How Do I Report?
Reporting companies will have to report beneficial ownership information electronically through FinCEN’s website: www.fincen.gov/boi.
The system will provide the filer with a confirmation of receipt once a completed report is filed with FinCEN.
When Do I Report?
Reports will be accepted starting on January 1, 2024. If your company was created or registered prior to January 1, 2024, you will have until January 1, 2025, to report BOI. If your company was created or registered on or after January 1, 2024, and before January 1, 2025, you must report BOI within 90 calendar days after receiving actual or public notice that your company’s creation or registration is effective, whichever is earlier. If your company was created or registered on or after January 1, 2025, you must file BOI within 30 calendar days after receiving actual or public notice that its creation or registration is effective.
Any updates or corrections to beneficial ownership information that you previously filed with FinCEN must be submitted within 30 days.

Scammers are finding new ways every day to try to take your money or steal your identity. One of the latest schemes involves a phone call from a scammer impersonating a bank employee. They falsely claim there's fraud happening on your debit card and will overnight a new card.
We want to assure you that these calls are not from First Community Bank. They are scams. It is important to keep in mind the following information to protect yourself:
If you receive a call that you are unsure of, please ask for the name of the person you are speaking with, hang up and call us at (361) 888-9310 to verify the call.
If you notice any unusual “Debit / ATM Card” activity, we encourage you to call (361) 888-3777 which will direct you to our Fraud Center. (If you are calling after hours, select ‘Option 2.’)
Remember, scammers are always trying to get their hands on your financial information. Don’t become a victim of a scam.
FCB has awarded dozens of Coastal Bend organizations and charities through the bank's Others 1st project, which is designed to recognize and reward those helping Coastal Bend communities. Our employees nominate local organizations each year for consideration in this project.
In 2023, First Community Bank celebrated its 40th anniversary by launching a "40 Weeks of Giving" program. The program's objective was to donate over $40,000 to local community organizations dedicated to giving back to our communities.
In 2024, FCB was awarded a Texas Bankers Foundation's Cornerstone Award for its “40 Weeks of Giving” program. The Texas Bankers Foundation is a charitable arm of the Texas Bankers Association, and it recognizes and rewards Texas banks that have made a commitment to be the cornerstones of their communities.
FCB employees volunteer at multiple functions throughout the year. Anywhere from assorting items at food banks, making warm meals for shelters, to participating in walks to raise awareness. In 2023, our employees donated more than 150 hours to community events.
Community is in our name — that's why First Community Bank is dedicated to supporting local events that need additional funding to bring their event to life. Whether it's from sponsoring ad space, a banner, or being an event sponsor, we're proud to support the community we call home.
Those who would like to help can do so each time they cash a check using the live teller function of our Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs). Just like a traditional ATM, our ITMs do not accept, or dispense coins, but you can still cash a check with an ITM teller during bank hours by opting to donate any “cents” portion of your check to our “Coin for Change” program. All donations will benefit recipients through our Others 1st Project.

Every day, thousands of people fall victim to fraudulent emails, texts and calls from scammers pretending to be their bank. And in this time of expanded use of online and mobile banking, the problem is only growing worse. In fact, the Federal Trade Commission’s report on fraud estimates that American consumers lost a staggering $5.8 billion to phishing scams and other fraud in 2021—an increase of more than 70 percent over 2020.
It’s time to put scammers in their place.
Online scams aren’t so scary when you know what to look for. And at First Community Bank, we’re committed to helping you spot them as an extra layer of protection for your account. We’ve joined with the American Bankers Association and banks across the country in a nationwide effort to fight phishing—one scam at a time.
We want every bank customer to become a pro at spotting a phishing scam—and stop bank impostors in their tracks. It starts with these four words: Banks Never Ask That. Because when you know something sounds suspicious, you’ll be less likely to be fooled.
These four phishing scams are full of red flags:
You’ve probably seen some of these scams before. But that doesn’t stop a scammer from trying.

Your bank will never pose candy corn conundrums and would never ask for your pizza topping preferences. They won’t call to ask for sensitive info like your social security number or ask you to click shady links in a text message.
Can you escape Scam City with your cash intact? Play your way to #phishing mastery with this new game from the American Bankers Association: https://aba.social/3lpYQz4.

Scammers use lots of different tactics — stories about grandchildren in distress, million-dollar prizes, a romantic future, or a business deal — to try to steal peoples’ money. Scammers may demand payment by wire transfers, gift cards, and cryptocurrency — methods that transfer funds quickly and anonymously.
During Older Americans Month, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission are partnering together to help older adults and their families and friends know what to do if someone demands payment by these methods, and where to report fraud.
To protect against scams and fraud:

But this month, we want to talk about protecting what you have, and what you’re building, from scammers. Scammers are good at what they do. They target people of all backgrounds, ages, and income levels with sophisticated ways to steal your money and personal information.
Follow along with us as we cover how to spot and avoid scammers: how scammers ask you to pay them, the signs of a job or money-making scam, and how to check your credit.

The First Community Bank interactive teller machines (ITMs) feature upgraded technology and improved functionality over existing ATMs, including a touchscreen, two-way video option to speak with an FCB teller, in English or Spanish, during bank hours.
Yes. The Interactive Teller Machine functions just like the familiar ATM, but with additional transaction capabilities, including a two-way video option to speak with an FCB teller.
ATM functions, without teller assistance, are available 24/7. ITM functions are available 8 a.m.–9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m.–noon, excluding Bank Holidays. Customers making a deposit with an ITM teller up until 6 p.m. will receive credit to their account on the same business day.
Simply touch the screen to activate the two-way video feature of the ITM. Once the screen is activated, one of our FCB tellers will come online to assist you. You may communicate with the teller by using the built-in speakers or touchscreen keyboard; a handset is also available at walk-up locations. The teller will walk you through the transaction just as they would in person.
The terminal may be used as an ATM, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Simply insert your Debit Card into the blinking blue slot on the right side of the screen and you will be prompted through your desired ATM transaction.
When you use our ITM, you will talk to a First Community Bank employee here in the Coastal Bend. No third party is involved.
For cash deposits, the ITM will accept all denominations of U.S. currency. With a live teller, our ITMs are set to dispense denominations of $100s, $20s, $5s, and $1s. For an ATM transaction, denominations are limited to $20s. Visit with a teller to learn more.
Just like a traditional ATM, the ITM machine does not accept, or dispense coins. If you would like to cash a check using the ITM teller, you may do so by opting to donate the “cents” portion of your check to our “Coin for Change” program. All donations will benefit dozens of Coastal Bend charities and organizations through FCB’s Others 1st Project.
FCB has both ITMs and ATMs located throughout the Coastal Bend. Click here to find the most convenient location near you.
During the holiday season, we tend to make a lot more purchases online for travel and gifts, so it’s especially important to be vigilant about protecting your money. Here are some of the most common scams to watch for:
Fake Websites and Apps. Scammers often create fake websites that are so similar to the sites of popular retailers, it easily tricks consumers into providing payment information. The scammers take your information and your money, but you never receive the products. Scammers have also developed fake apps that contain malware. When you download the app, the malware steals personal information from your device or locks it, holding it for ransom until you pay the scammers. Other types of fraudulent apps ask you to login using your social media or email accounts that could expose your personal information for the scammers to steal.
Be careful of apps or websites that ask for suspicious permissions, such as granting access to your contacts, text messages, stored passwords, or credit card information. Also, poor grammar or misspelled words in an apps’ description or on a website is a red flag that it is not legitimate.
Email Links. Avoid clicking on links in unsolicited emails or emails from unfamiliar sources. The links may lead to an illegitimate website attempting to get you to enter your credit card or other personal information. Some links may download malware (malicious software, such as computer viruses) to your computer when you click on them that can steal your banking information, including login identification, passwords, and credit or debit card numbers. These emails typically look very similar to ones sent by well-known retailers, banks, and other entities.
Be on the lookout for emails that have typos or other obvious mistakes. In addition, be skeptical of email attachments described as coupons, rebates, or payment forms – they could include malware. And avoid email offers that seem “too good to be true.” If an email promises popular items for free or a surprisingly low price, it is probably a scam.
Making Payments on Unsecure Sites. Before paying for a purchase online, make sure the website you’re on has “https” at the beginning of its URL with a lock symbol:
This means the site has a protected network connection. Websites with “http” at the beginning of the URL with no “s” are more vulnerable to attacks by scammers who steal credit card information by monitoring network traffic. Also be aware of pop-up windows that appear while you are on a website asking for your credit card information to receive coupons or to win free items. Legitimate companies do not ask for your personal information for those purposes.
Using Public Wi-Fi to Shop or Access Sensitive Information. Wireless connectivity, also known as Wi-Fi, allows your laptop, PC, or mobile device to connect to the internet without a physical wire connection. Many restaurants, hotels, libraries, and other places offer free public Wi-Fi, which is convenient when you’re on the go. However, these networks may not be secure (since they either do not require a password or provide the same generic password to all customers for access) and may expose your personal and banking information to scammers looking to steal names, social security numbers, and bank account numbers.
Avoid using public Wi-Fi to make purchases online, login to your financial accounts, or access other sites that have sensitive information about you. It’s also a good idea to stick with websites that have “https” encryption (discussed above) when in public places.
Package Delivery Confirmation Scams. This scam is especially popular during the holidays when people receive gifts through the mail that they may not be expecting.
The scammers call or email claiming to be from the U.S. Postal Service or a major shipping company and state that you have a package waiting for delivery. To ensure the package is meant for you, you are asked to provide personal information, which the scammers steal to use to open credit accounts in your name. In response to this scam, the U.S. Postal Service explained it does not call or email people and ask for personal information if there is a problem with a delivery. Visit U.S. Postal Service Inspection Crime Alert for more information.

ID theft is on the minds of many these days, but tax identity theft takes it to another level, meaning someone is using your Social Security Number for work or tax purposes.
ID theft is on the minds of many these days, but tax identity theft takes it to another level, meaning someone is using your Social Security Number for work or tax purposes.
How would I know? Many times, victims are completely unaware their Social Security Number has been stolen until they file their tax return only to learn that one has already been filed in their name.
Other clues? Sometimes victims receive a letter from the IRS showing they received wages or other income from an employer for whom they’ve never worked. They may also be notified that they owe additional taxes, have a refund offset or have had a collection action taken against them for a year they did not file a tax return. These are red flags and should immediately be addressed with the IRS.
How does this happen? Identity thieves are savvy and find a variety of ways to gain access to personal information, including phishing emails, scam phone calls as well as computer hacks and data breaches.
How do we help avoid it? Protect your personal information and that of your family members, including keeping tax records secure and not carrying your Social Security card. Always use security software with firewall and anti-virus protections on your computer and use strong passwords for your accounts.
Be smart. Learn to recognize and avoid phishing emails, and do not click on links or download attachments from unknown or suspicious emails. Do not be intimidated by threatening calls and texts from thieves posing as legitimate organizations such as your bank, credit card companies and even the IRS.
How do I know it’s the “real” IRS contacting me? Remember, the IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information. This also includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels or threatening phone calls. If you’re in doubt, contact the IRS directly with your concerns.
What do I do if I’m a victim? If your SSN is compromised or you suspect you are a victim of tax-related identity theft, contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which is charged with handling most identity theft complaints at 1-877-IDTHEFT (1-877-438-4338). You can visit www.socialsecurity.gov/statement/ to access your Social Security Administration earnings and benefits statement, or to check whether someone has used your Social Security number to get a job or to avoid paying taxes. You can also contact the IRS Identity Protection Specialized Unit at 1-800-908-4490.
Build an emergency fund. You never know what could happen. Financial experts suggest an emergency fund equal to three to nine months of expenses.
Establish your budget. Get a receipt for everything you buy, and stack them into categories like restaurants, groceries, etc. You’ll quickly see where your money is going.
Budget with cash and envelopes. Try the envelope budget system where you use a set amount of cash for most spending.
Don't just save money, SAVE. Don’t just spend less; put the money you save into a savings account.
Save automatically. Every pay period, have your employer deduct a certain amount from your paycheck and transfer it to a retirement or savings account.
Aim for short-term savings goals. Long-term goals can be intimidating. People save more successfully when they keep short-term goals in sight.
Start saving for your retirement as early as possible. Few people get rich through their wages alone. Start saving for retirement now.
Take full advantage of employer matches to your retirement plan. Many employers will match a certain amount of what you save in a retirement plan such as a 401(k).
Save your windfalls and tax refunds. Every time you receive a work bonus, inheritance, or tax refund, put a portion into your savings account.
Save your loose change. Putting aside just 50¢ over a year will get you 40 percent of the way to a $500 emergency fund.
Use the 24-hour rule. Think over each nonessential purchase for at least 24 hours.
During the holiday season, we tend to make a lot more purchases online for
travel and gifts, so it’s especially important to be vigilant about protecting your
money. Here are some of the most common scams to watch for:
Fake Websites and Apps. Scammers often create fake websites that are so
similar to the sites of popular retailers, it easily tricks consumers into providing
payment information. The scammers take your information and your money, but
you never receive the products. Scammers have also developed fake apps that
contain malware. When you download the app, the malware steals personal
information from your device or locks it, holding it for ransom until you pay the
scammers. Other types of fraudulent apps ask you to login using your social
media or email accounts that could expose your personal information for the
scammers to steal.
Be careful of apps or websites that ask for suspicious permissions, such as
granting access to your contacts, text messages, stored passwords, or credit
card information. Also, poor grammar or misspelled words in an apps’ description
or on a website is a red flag that it is not legitimate.
Email Links. Avoid clicking on links in unsolicited emails or emails from unfamiliar
sources. The links may lead to an illegitimate website attempting to get you to
enter your credit card or other personal information. Some links may download
malware (malicious software, such as computer viruses) to your computer when
you click on them that can steal your banking information, including login
identification, passwords, and credit or debit card numbers. These emails
typically look very similar to ones sent by well-known retailers, banks, and other
entities.
Be on the lookout for emails that have typos or other obvious mistakes. In
addition, be skeptical of email attachments described as coupons, rebates, or
payment forms – they could include malware. And avoid email offers that seem
“too good to be true.” If an email promises popular items for free or a surprisingly
low price, it is probably a scam.
Making Payments on Unsecure Sites. Before paying for a purchase online, make
sure the website you’re on has “https” at the beginning of its URL with a lock
symbol:
This means the site has a protected network
connection. Websites with “http” at the beginning of the URL with no “s” are more
vulnerable to attacks by scammers who steal credit card information by
monitoring network traffic. Also be aware of pop-up windows that appear while
you are on a website asking for your credit card information to receive coupons
or to win free items. Legitimate companies do not ask for your personal
information for those purposes.
Using Public Wi-Fi to Shop or Access Sensitive Information. Wireless
connectivity, also known as Wi-Fi, allows your laptop, PC, or mobile device to
connect to the internet without a physical wire connection. Many restaurants,
hotels, libraries, and other places offer free public Wi-Fi, which is convenient
when you’re on the go. However, these networks may not be secure (since they
either do not require a password or provide the same generic password to all
customers for access) and may expose your personal and banking information to
scammers looking to steal names, social security numbers, and bank account
numbers.
Avoid using public Wi-Fi to make purchases online, login to your financial
accounts, or access other sites that have sensitive information about you. It’s
also a good idea to stick with websites that have “https” encryption (discussed
above) when in public places.
Package Delivery Confirmation Scams. This scam is especially popular during
the holidays when people receive gifts through the mail that they may not be
expecting.
The scammers call or email claiming to be from the U.S. Postal Service or a
major shipping company and state that you have a package waiting for delivery.
To ensure the package is meant for you, you are asked to provide personal
information, which the scammers steal to use to open credit accounts in your
name. In response to this scam, the U.S. Postal Service explained it does not call
or email people and ask for personal information if there is a problem with a
delivery. Visit U.S. Postal Service Inspection Crime Alert for more information.

As you may know, one of the three major credit reporting agencies, Equifax, announced a major data breach that affected over 143 million Americans. The credit reporting bureau is a third party service provider used by many banks, including First Community Bank. We are fully aware of the situation and highly encourage our customers and even non-customers to check the *database (link provided below) to determine if you have been affected. Equifax is updating their website with important consumer information regarding the breach and how you can protect your credit: equifaxsecurity2017.com. See our FAQ to learn more about the breach and how to protect yourself.
I’ve been hearing about the Equifax breach in the news. What happened?
Equifax, one of the three major credit bureaus, experienced a massive data breach. The hackers accessed people’s names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in some instances, driver’s license numbers. They also stole credit card numbers for about 209,000 people and dispute documents with personal identifying information for about 182,000 people.
*Was my information stolen?
If you have a credit report, there’s a good chance it was. Go to a special website set up by Equifax to find out: https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com/. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Potential Impact,” enter some personal information and the site will tell you if you’ve been affected. Be sure you’re on a secure network (not public wi-fi) when you submit sensitive data over the internet.
How can I protect myself?
Should I place a credit freeze on my files?
Before deciding to place a credit freeze on your accounts, consider your personal situation. If you might be applying for credit soon or think you might need quick credit in an emergency, it might be better to simply place a fraud alert on your files with the three major credit bureaus. A fraud alert puts a red flag on your credit report which requires businesses to take additional steps, such as contacting you by phone before opening a new account.
How do I contact the three major credit bureaus to place a freeze on my files?
Equifax: Call 800-349-9960 or visit its website.
Experian: Call 888-397-3742 or visit its website.
TransUnion: Call 888-909-8872 or visit its website.
Where can I get more information about the Equifax breach?
You can learn more directly from Equifax at https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com/. You can also learn more by visiting the Federal Trade Commission’s web page on the breach at https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2017/09/equifax-data-breach-what-do. Bill Pay is a service that allows you to pay virtually anyone or any company through your online banking account. You determine who you want to pay, when you want to make the payment and which account you want the payment to come from. It's safe, secure and easy to use.
You can pay virtually any business or individual with a mailing address within the United States and Puerto Rico. For example, you can pay utilities, cable bills or credit cards, or individuals such as a landlord, babysitter or relative.
It’s easy to enroll in Bill Pay. Just log in to your account and click the "Bill Pay" link to access the short enrollment form.
The first step is to add a payee, the person or company you wish to pay. Here’s how easy it is:
Once you add your payee, you can start making payments in seconds.
Payments are sent one of two ways—electronically or by paper checks. The majority of payments are delivered electronically. Your payment information, such as your account number, is sent via secure transmission. All other payments are made by paper checks that are mailed via the U.S. Postal Service.
Paying bills online is one of the safest ways to pay your bills. Bill Pay helps guard against identity theft from lost or stolen checkbooks, bills and statements. It also increases your privacy because only you can access your account information, account numbers and payment history. As a result, you maintain tighter control of your account with real-time access to your payments activity.
Generally, your payment is received within 2 to 7 days, depending on whether or not it is sent electronically or via paper check.
Most scheduled payments are sent electronically and funds are withdrawn from your account on the payment date.
Here's a quick list of the many ways you can benefit from using Bill Pay.
*Savings are approximate and based upon the average annual cost of stamps, envelopes and checks required for paying 10 bills per month.
eBill is a feature that allows you to receive and pay electronic summary versions of paper bills directly from your Bill Pay account.
eBills are delivered directly to your Bill Pay account. Once you set up an individual eBill for a company you do business with, an eBill comes directly from that payee to your account. Examples of businesses that offer eBills are cable service providers, phone service providers, utility providers and credit card companies.
You will also continue to receive paper bill statements unless you contact the payee to stop sending those statements.
If a payee offers eBill, there will be a “Set up eBill” link next to their listing on your Bill Pay dashboard.
With eBill, everything you need is in one convenient location. Using eBill allows you to streamline your bill pay routine and have online access to your bills. That means you won't have to keep track of paper bills. In addition, you can view past bill summaries at a glance.
Balance due, due date and minimum payment amount are included in your eBill. If you need additional details, there will be a link that lets you log in to your account on your payee's website, or you can check your paper statement.
To pay an eBill, simply choose the account you want to pay from, enter the amount you want to pay and schedule when you want the payment delivered.
You can sign up to receive an electronic notice to alert you when an eBill has been delivered to your account. You can receive these notices in the form of emails or text alerts to provide an extra reminder when a payment is due.
The following browsers are supported by Bill Pay for use:
Chip cards are like the card you have today but include an embedded microchip. The chip contains information that is encrypted, making it extremely difficult for the card to be copied or counterfeited. Your chip card will also have the usual magnetic stripe on the back so you can continue using your card while merchants are transitioning to new terminals.
The embedded microchip provides strong transaction security features, and other application capabilities, not possible with traditional magnetic stripe cards. A chip card is extremely difficult to counterfeit.
Chip technology is already used in other countries and now coming to the U.S. Your chip card provides an extra level of security and is easier to use at international locations.
A chip card looks just like a traditional card with an embedded chip in addition to the standard magnetic stripe on the back of the card. Rather than swiping your card when making a purchase, you will insert your card into a terminal to complete the transaction. Once your transaction has been completed, you will be prompted to remove your card from the terminal.
The chip in the card communicates with the terminal to determine whether or not your card is authentic. Depending on the security preferences associated with your chip card as well as the terminal, you will be prompted to provide your signature or Personal Identification Number (PIN) to complete your transaction.
Although chip cards are relatively new in the U.S., they have been used in other countries for many years. In some foreign countries, particularly in Europe, chip cards continue to be widely used and have been successful in reducing fraud.
You can use your chip card everywhere you shop today. Insert your card into a chip-enabled terminal or swipe your card at merchant locations that have not yet switched to chip-enabled terminals. You can also continue to use your card as you did before - for online transactions, mail order/ telephone order transactions, pay at the pump fuel purchases, and at A TM machines.
